Rusty Berry

John R. “Rusty” Berry, Jr., DVM has been a veterinarian for over 33 years and for the past 12 years he has been serving as the Assistant State Wildlife Veterinarian for the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF). Dr. Berry earned his DVM from Louisiana State University – School of Veterinary Medicine in 1991. Currently, he provides veterinary assistance to all of the wildlife programs under LDWF including developing and implementing the LDWF Chemical Immobilization Training course for all LDWF Biologists along with creating the LDWF NalMed-A dosing protocol used for research and nuisance response on Louisiana black bears and white tailed deer. He also assists LDWF programs with wildlife and zoonotic disease surveillance, disease detection, disease response and response/management planning. Dr. Berry has been married to his wife Lauren for 42 years. They have two children, Johnny Berry who is the Large Carnivore Biologist for LDWF and Courtney Berry who is a Doctor of Physical Therapy at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital.
